At this stage I don't want to get your hopes up too much: I can assure you that this blog is going to be badly (and irregularly) written, opinionated, occasionally libellous and probably short on humour (I struggle with the timing). But I am delighted to guarantee that it IS going to be almost totally dedicated to football. Take it or leave it, football fan or not, all comments are welcome and I hope that you enjoy your short visit to my world.

Before we start, perhaps I should tell you a little about myself. It's not my name, but for now you can call me cc. I'm in my late twenties, male of the species and resident in London (but please don't hold that against me). I live with my girlfriend, who is fantastic although slightly suspicious of me writing this blog. She's not a big football fan. Like most people I know, I have a steady and reasonably well-paid, but ultimately pointless, job. I think I know the difference between right and wrong and I try to treat people as I would like them to treat me. What else? When I am not thinking about, or playing, football, I also enjoy listening to music, hanging out with friends, drinking good beer and travelling.

As I type, on this slightly sticky early summer evening, kick-off in the first match of the FIFA World Cup 2006 is less than 72 hours away, and I make no secret of the fact that I absolutely cannot wait for the tournament to start! Indeed, I struggle to concentrate on anything else (work, food, breathing) for more than a couple of minutes before my thoughts drift back to the 736 or so professional footballers from around the world that are currently making their way to Germany in preparation for the most important 5 weeks of their lives. It is with great regret that I can tell you that my own country did not manage to qualify, so I am reduced to the status of "neutral" when it comes to declaring my allegiance. That is not to say that I don't have some favourites among those who did make it, and of course it certainly doesn't mean that I would be happy for any one of the 32 competing nations to take the trophy... You'll surely gather this over the days and weeks to come.

Thanks for reading.
